Technical Description
Optical Knowledge Point: Common Optical Thread Size Standards
This is a thread specific to Thorlabs Inc. (USA) and not a commonly used optical thread. “SM” is the code for sewing machine threads in thread notation, but this American company uses it for internal and external thread connections of optical lenses and sleeves. The thread type is UNS (Unified National Special Thread) with a tolerance class of 2A/2B. A unique feature of this thread is that regardless of the diameter, the pitch is 40 threads per inch (TPI). Product Description
The translation adjustment mount provides a ±1mm travel perpendicular to the optical axis of the 30mm cage system. This translation is driven by two M5*0.25 hex adjusters, with the central stage usable for X or Y axis translation. The mount features scales in horizontal and vertical directions to assist in aligning the mounting platform. After determining the position, tighten the locking nut to secure it; in narrow spaces, the adjusters can be turned using a 2mm hex wrench.
The movable stage features SM1 (1.035”-40) threads. With the included SM1 retaining ring, it can directly mount Ø1-inch optical components up to 10mm thick. (1 CSK3 retaining ring is included; additional rings need to be purchased separately.)
The mount is equipped with four through holes, compatible with PCM-S series cage rods. Each rod is fixed by tightening the side fastening screws using a 1.3mm hex wrench.
Each side is equipped with one M4 threaded hole for installing Ø12mm rods or Ø1-inch rods, suitable for free-space setups.
