Technical Description
An Optical Absorption Detection Module measures wavelength-dependent light absorption by materials or samples. It is widely used in optical analysis, spectroscopy, chemical sensing, environmental monitoring, and biomedicine to quantify energy loss during light transmission.
Core Functions
- Measure absorption properties: Determine absorption strength at various wavelengths to characterize optical parameters such as absorption coefficient and bandgap.
- Quantitative sample concentration: Using the Beer-Lambert Law, the module measures concentrations of target substances in solution, widely applied for detecting chemicals, protein levels, DNA, etc.
- Environmental monitoring and gas detection: Used to measure atmospheric pollutants and gas concentrations (CO₂, NOₓ, etc.) by their wavelength-specific absorption signatures.

- Each module integrates two adjustable dichroic mounts, one fiber port, three SM1 threaded ports, and three filter mounts to form a fixed coupling system supporting both free-space and fiber-to-fiber operation.
- Each SM1-threaded filter mount supports filtering or power attenuation for fiber setups. A sliding insert accepts Ø1” filters up to 6.6 mm thick. Absorptive filters with transmission from 0.01% to 80% are available.
- Dichroic mounts hold Ø1/2” mirrors (≥2.5 mm thick) at 45° to the optical axis, secured by setscrews. Tilt is adjustable ±4° via M5×0.25 fine adjusters operated with a 2.0 mm hex key, with lockable position.
- The input port features an SMA fiber adapter for connecting LEDs or lasers via single-mode or multi-mode fiber. The SM1 internal thread accepts Ø1” plano-convex lenses to collimate light from the input fiber and couple it into output fibers. Compatible with Ø1” lens sleeves, photodiode power probes, and optical detectors.
