Technical Notes
Microscope Dovetail
A dovetail is a mechanical mounting interface used for precise alignment and assembly. Components are joined by inserting one dovetail into another and securing with one or more set screws. Dovetails come in two geometries: linear and circular.
- Linear dovetails allow sliding and locking for flexible positioning while constraining other degrees of freedom.
- Circular dovetails enable optical port alignment between components, maintaining a single optical axis with minimal user adjustment.
Many products in the Oeabt microscopy imaging series use dovetail designs compatible with Oeabt components and optomechanical parts from other manufacturers. For compatibility identification, key dovetail dimensions are listed in the parameter tables. Note that these dovetail designations are specific to Oeabt products; naming conventions may differ among other microscope manufacturers. Always refer to engineering drawings for dovetail compatibility.

- The MCB series breadboards are used to construct custom wide-field observation setups and epi-illumination paths on top of Oeabt microscopy imaging systems. The breadboard is equipped with a male or female dovetailwith a central Ø38.1 mm through-bore for the imaging system optical axis. This dovetail allows direct mounting to the epi-illumination arm of the microscope main body or stacking additional breadboards on top of epi-illumination modules.Note: MCB1 should be used with the OPS95-ML base plate for mid-mount installation.

| MCB1 | 30 mm, 60 mm cage systems |
| MCB2 | 60 mm cage system |
- In addition to standard M4/M6 hole arrays, the breadboard has 8×4-40 threaded holesat the dovetail port, enabling integration with 30 mm and 60 mm cage systems for seamless mating of optical and threaded ports.
